Keep your fitness on track over Christmas

Emma, manager of our Carlow branch has some tips to keep your fitness goals on track over Christmas:

1. Plan your training sessions: Schedule your exercise sessions in advance, and try to stick to your routine as much as possible. This will help you stay committed and avoid skipping sessions.

2. Stay active: Look for opportunities to stay active throughout the day, even if you can’t follow your regular exercise routine. Keep your step count high, walk the dog, head out for a cycle, keep moving.

3. Set realistic expectations: Recognise that the Christmas period may bring some disruptions to your fitness routine. Adjust your expectations accordingly and focus on maintaining your progress rather than making substantial progress during December.

4. Choose healthier options: Be mindful of your food choices during Christmas gatherings. Opt for healthier options when possible, such as lean proteins, vegetables, and fruits. Allow yourself some treats in moderation, but try not to overindulge.

5. Stay hydrated: Drinking enough water is essential for maintaining your overall well-being. Keep a water bottle with you and ensure you stay hydrated throughout the day, especially if your alcohol consumption has increased.

6. Get support: Enlist the support of friends and family who share your fitness goals. They can help you stay motivated and accountable during the holiday season.

Finally, remember that balance is key. Don’t be too hard on yourself if things don’t go exactly as planned during the Christmas period.

The team at The Gym will be ready to help get you back on track as soon as you’re ready.
